Hurricane Harvey Flood Relief

September 24, 2017

As we all know, Texas was hit hard by recent Hurricane Harvey. Many of the affected small towns were devastated and not receiving the same amount of news coverage.

Sean Stanfield at RPM Mortgage in San Diego, CA has a long history of partnering with friends and colleagues to support his local community. After seeing the devastation of the flooding in Texas, he reached out to see if our organization could partner with his network to help supply children with school supplies.

We sprung into action with the generous donations that began flooding in. We purchased backpacks and stuffed them with school supplies with the help of local families.

The kids who volunteered were eager to help stuff the backpacks and they also wrote encouraging notes to the receiving students.

We originally planned to help schools in La Grange, Texas but were informed of a greater need in Wharton, Texas. 60% of the town had flooded, school was about to start and they had very few supplies.

When we arrived to Wharton, it was difficult to see the devastation in person from the flooding. Street after street was full of flood-ruined items from households and businesses. We were able to talk to some of the people affected and learn how devastating the flood has been and the difficulties they face going forward.

We were able to deliver the backpacks and supplies on the first day of school and they were received with much gratitude.

Thank you to Sean and all of the generous donors who helped make this project possible. We are thankful for you!

Please keep these flood-ravaged communities in your thoughts and prayers.
