Random Acts of Love recently spent a couple of days volunteering with Mobile Loaves and Fishes at the new Community First village. This village is 27-acre master-planned community providing affordable, sustainable housing and a supportive community for the disabled, chronically homeless in Central Texas. It’s a wonderful place and a unique mix of affordable housing options. Many of the residents are able to work and earn an income while living here.
Features here include places for fellowship, an outdoor theater, community garden, chickens, goats, bees and an aquaponics operation and a medical facility. You’ll also find plenty of smiling faces as you walk the beautiful grounds!
Community First has plenty of volunteer opportunities if you are in Austin or can travel here. We met a lady from Georgia who was volunteering to learn how the community was being run to possibly construct a similar operation in her city.
The chronically former homeless residents are provided with more than just a living opportunity at Community First; they have support, hope, prayer and community.
